Volume 31 Call for Submissions

OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

The Journal of Religion and Culture (JRC) is seeking papers related to the social scientific study of religion and/or culture for its upcoming 31st edition. We welcome papers from any discipline that make use of any theoretical approach and engage with this edition’s theme Journeying: Movements, Passage, Horizons. 

Possible areas of exploration include (but are not limited to) the intersection of religions, cultures, and:

  • Pilgrimage
  • Diasporas and Displacements
  • Emigration and Refugee Experiences
  • Tourism and Travel
  • Self-discovery, Recovery, and Transformation
  • Rites, Ritual, and Psychedelic Practices
  • Disciplinary pasts, imagined futures, and reflections of present situations in media res

The JRC is a peer-reviewed journal published annually by the Department of Religions and Cultures at Concordia University and is especially committed to publishing the work of graduate students and early-career scholars. Explorations of diverse methodological approaches, historical periods, traditions, and geographic locations are strongly encouraged. We are interested in research that challenges boundaries and exhibits a novel approach, methodology, and/or interpretation.


The JRC is also looking for book reviews for the upcoming edition. Book reviews should be critical and investigative readings of new and exciting publications in religious studies and/or other related fields. The deadline for all submissions (articles and book reviews) is May 31st, 2025. Papers and book reviews are to be submitted using the online submission form at www.jrc-concordia.ca/submit. Be sure to read the guidelines in detail on our website; papers and book reviews that fail to adhere to the submission guidelines may be rejected.

Guidelines for Article Submissions:

  • 15-25 pages in length (including endnotes and bibliography), double-spaced, with standard-sized margins, font size, and style;
  • Formatted according to Chicago Manual of Style;
  • Include an abstract (150-300 words) and 3-5 keywords;
  • Page numbers on the top right corner of each page;
  • Do not include a title page.
